Well this isn’t exactly an announcement…but it is the official update! We bought a house two weeks ago! EEK! So overwhelming and so adult and still so unbelievable. We’re gotten a lot of love for this big step and a lot of questions, so I wanted to answer them for you all. AND give you a peek at our new home. Including lots of Ollie running around and being crazy.
We started looking at houses sometime last Spring. We weren’t necessarily itching to move, but we knew that if we were staying in Radford that it’d be smart to buy eventually. And as much as we LOVE our rental home (truly I love it), there are just a few things about it we didn’t want to commit to. So we started looking every few weeks with the help of my momma (the best real estate agent out there!) knowing that it’d probably take us 6 months to a year before we found something. Radford is such an odd little town and the houses here definitely show it :] There’s always something a little weird about every Radford house, including ours now. (we’ve got a little hobbit bathroom haha. literally you can’t fit more than one person in it at a time) We saw houses that were perfect but lacking living rooms. Or perfect but just a little too small. We’ve got to keep a home office so we were looking for something with enough bedrooms and in our budget. And we know pretty much nothing about fixing things up and don’t have the space in our life to have our house be in chaos/construction for months. Essentially, what we were looking for just didn’t exist in this area.
At some point, my mom hooked us up with a realtor in the area (ask us if you need a referral, he was awesome!…and he was patient enough to work with both of us AND my mom! that’s a win!), and we started looking a little more aggressively. Still knowing that it was pretty unlikely we’d find something. And then mid July hit and we found our house! Every other house had things that were non negotiable no’s…and then we walked in this one and we were stunned! SO spacious, so much room to grow and host, and it was in a perfectly quiet and safe part of town. My mom and stepdad drove down (my stepdad’s a mortgage banker, so we were MAJORLY hooked up as far as info and help!) a few days later and then we put in an offer. Longest week of the summer. After a lot of back and forth, everything was settled! And two weeks ago we signed a million pieces of paper and then were given free pens and keychains and most important, the key to our new home. (but for real, somebody get these people on client experience…most expensive keychain I’ve ever bought ;]) It’s ours! We’ve got some cosmetic stuff to do, but it’s all ours.
We’re so thankful for the way this home buying experience has gone for us. It was perfect timing (financially, in life…not so much as far as stress load :])! We agonized over the decision for a good 24 hours, but ultimately we were confident in it. David handled all of the stressful stuff. I’m a change hater and it generally gives me a ton of anxiety, so I was super thankful that he could take on most of the burden. And we legitimately could not have done this (or have gotten as good of a deal) without my mom! She sacrificed SO much time explaining all of the confusing stuff (aka everything) and helping us make the millions of decisions that come with buying a house. The BEST part about the way it worked out is that we have a gap month and don’t have to be moved out of our current house until November 1! Thank goodness! There’s just no way we could’ve moved before late October. We’re really, really thankful we can move in “slowly” and get some cosmetic stuff done before we live there.
The only bummer is that we DO have to move out of our current home. We love it here and we’ll miss it so much. This was the house we brought Ollie home to and have lived so much life in. And we’re gonna miss our front porch like crazy. Here’s to hoping I don’t sob when we leave. (but i know i will because i’m just emotional OKAY) And here’s to our new home which will hold even MORE memories.
Iphone peeks on closing day :]
Safe to say, Ollie loves it.
Love this so much!
Mom life.
Here’s a glimpse at the inside! The biggest thing we want to do (and have started) is painting!
My office! 🙂
The kitchen is the only thing we don’t super love, but we’re thinking about expanding eventually!
Look at that tree! Annnnd it’s already painted over hahah.
I forgot to clean up first :]
This will be Ollie’s playroom! And we’ve set it up so he can play there while we paint!
CUTE colors right? This will be gone soon too :]
Thankful for the sweetest college students who came to help us paint!
Basement! With the great paint job again 😉
We set off a confetti bomb. It didn’t go quite like I hoped, but Ollie liked it eventually.
We had to do a couple takes!
We own that floor, yall!
