Another installment of the summer bucket list! Another dream got crossed off the bucket list a couple weeks ago! Wait…no….it was the beginning of JUNE! What! Summer has flown by and I can’t believe that David’s birthday was now this long ago. David turned the big 2-5 on June 8th and we were lucky enough to be up in Northern Virginia so that we could celebrate with some of our closest friends, Maddy and Mark, and my sister Kelsey. We spent the day frolicking around Reston Towne Center on our own, eating froyo and then dining at Vapiano’s. And then took an incredible journey to the ever fabulous and not so classy, Fairfax Fair.
Sidenote: David and I have seriously been trying to go to a fair for awhile. We always pass them on the highway when we’re on roadtrips during the summer but we’re either not spontaneous enough or in too much of a rush to stop. The one time that we really planned it out, we got to the fair and the skies opened. It legitimately looked like the apocalypse was hanging over the ferris wheel! All of my nightmares from middle school of roller coaster rides were coming true right before my eyes. So needless to say, we turned around and got out of there ASAP!
Okay, so we had high hopes for the fair. Buuuuuut then we couldn’t find parking anywhere, had to take a bus in to the fair, got there with only like 2.5 hours left of it being open, oh AND it was crazy expensive. Once again, my childhood notions of a night at the fair were dashed. But, we made the best of it! Mark, Maddy, and Kelsey were the best people to be with us though because they just rolled with the craziness all night long! We waited in line FOREVER for the Crazy Mouse Coaster and managed to get on the ferris wheel before the fair closed. Complete with a all out brawl happening as we got on the ferris wheel….women and children involved unfortunately. We spent the entire ferris wheel ride pretending we weren’t terrified (because let’s be honest, the ferris wheel is actually really scary and a lot higher and less romantic than it looks in the Notebook).
Overall, even though our hopes and dreams of the romanticism of the fair were dashed, we had so much fun and had an absolute blast celebrating David. I mean let’s be real…who else got to spend the last hour of their birthday riding a ferris wheel for the first time while at the same time seeing a trashy fight being broken up by the police down below? :] Enjoy friends.
I like to call the above picture, the beginning of the end.
YES! Maddy got a picture of us on the Crazy Mouse. Kelsey’s having a blast, I’m screaming my face off…and David and Mark are pretending to sleep…
Cow :]
