Real talk: It is officially Fall and I did not even close to accomplish all of my summer bucket list goals. But instead of getting bummed about it, I’m just going to cross out the word “summer” on our chalk board and keep on keeping on. :] Another alternative to getting bummed is today’s post! Although David and I did not accomplish our set list of fun things, we did do a whole lot this summer. So of course, I wanted to share it all with you all! We had a pretty crazy and hilarious summer and here’s the full recap. In no particular order and in almost all iPhone photos.
1. We shot 9 weddings this summer. WHAT?! My goal this year was to shoot four weddings solo, and ohemgee never ever did I think we’d hit NINE just for the summer. What a crazy ride. David and I had an absolute blast getting to know new families and love on our clients all over the state of Virginia. Highlights? We got to shoot at our own wedding venue pictured above. I also got to shoot David’s Dad’s wedding! I also got to second shoot three weddings with the lovely Abby Grace.
2. We took the Sassaprius EVERYWHERE! We spent every weekend of the summer except for one out of town and that means that good old Sassapri got a lot of miles on her. We got crazy good at packing the car to the brim and the art of fast leaving. When every Friday is a travel day you’ve got to just embrace it. Bonus? She looks real good in the sunset and makes a great camera bag holder.
3. I outwore this hat. Seriously. What is my deal? I wore this thing almost every day. Especially when we traveled.
4. Took too many selfies of Neville. Legitimately. David’s phone is full of me and Neville posing away. It will be really embarrassing if anyone ever scrolls through his photo gallery.
5. We moved. In the middle of wedding season. In the middle of rush at David’s job at the bookstore. And it was chaos. We would move from 5pm to midnight most nights for a straight week. But oh man, was it worth it. We love our new house with all of it’s front porch swing glory.
6. Started a DIY refurbish project….and never finished. I’m gonna give myself credit for this one. For about a week I put a lot of work into the crazy looking entertainment center on the left to turn it into the classier quirkier entertainment center on the right. But alas, there is still much to do. I’ll let you know when this finishes up :]
7. We turned two. Which you can read about right here.
8. David got inked…again. We’re on a several long year journey to David’s 3/4 sleeve and his birthday present was another leg of that. It’s funny that this has turned into a normal thing for us to do once a year or so.
9. We saw and visited a lot of puppies :] Including the Charles the Monarch’s puppies. Seeing Neville on the other side of this doodle filled fence just made me about burst into tears. And I just included that picture of my parents’ dog on the right, Cooper, because he is ridiculously cute staring at that Coke.
10. Finally fell in love with these fandoms. I am now a Whovian through and through (aka Dr Who fan). I LOVE Matt Smith and spent a lot of my off time marathoning through all seven seasons of this show. Also Amy and Rory are my favorite. Later in the summer David and I finally decided to try Sherlock. One word: Addicted. Two more: John Watson.
11. I read a lot of books. At least 15. Some of them twice. Eleanor and Park was my great love of the summer…but dang did I have my nose in a book. No tan for this girl.
12. Also I spent a lot of time in front of the computer. Editing marathons became the norm and moving my iMac out into the living room became necessary.
13. We spent a lot of time with some favorite friends Mark and Maddy. They lived in Radford for a month and most nights in July you could find us conversing quietly over a card game or Ticket to Ride in efforts not to wake baby Ez.
14. For the last year and a half we’ve been playing the card game Nerts with Mark and Maddy. For some reason, even though they never win, Mark and David almost always insist on being partners. I repeat…they had never won…until this summer. Note their silent celebration above.
15. We ate too much fast food. Often on a curbside somewhere, with the dogs tied to a tree. I’m telling you, we had to get crafty with all the traveling.
16. I shot my first wedding without David. And these two beautiful ladies were the perfect and most fun companions for the day.
17. I came home to this one evening. At first glance, Neville appeared to have grown bored and chewed up all of the blinds. On further investigation, he had accidentally gotten TANGLED in them and had frantically been trying to chew his way out. Needless to say, I was devastating for scolding him and cuddled him all night long. (note layla’s disinterest)
18. I finally bought the Canon 5D Mark II. All my dreams.
19. We discovered Neville’s favorite way to roadtrip. On top of our shoulders. No joke, he does this on his own.
20. And finally. David started grad school and we started another year in ministry with Cru at Radford. Whew what a ride it has been.
Bonus picture: Because my dad is hilarious. And this felt like the shopping trip that would never end.
