I’ve been seeing this trend go around instagram called Friday Introductions! I love the idea and also wanted to take a chance to do it here on the blog. Also I just really wanted a reason to use this brush lettered graphic that Ashley Bush made for me! And doubly also, I loved the trend a couple years ago where bloggers posted random facts about themselves all the time. So here’s a fresh start…a Kaitlyn 101 if you want it :] If you read through the whole thing you get to see JUST how embarrassing fact #10 is!
- I went to Radford University for undergrad….but it was not my first choice. Most of you know by now that I live in lil old Radford in Southwest Virginia, but you may not know that I NEVER would’ve picked to live here. In fact, Radford was my very last choice and I was thoroughly disappointed about spending any time in this tiny town. But the Lord had other plans in store! It is here that Jesus captured my heart, shaped me into the person I am today, and introduced me to David, my husband. So yes, I’m still a city girl at heart. I miss the hustle and bustle. But I’ve warmed up to Southwest VA!
- I have a Coke Zero addiction…yeah when most people grab coffee to start off their mornings…I grab a Coke Zero. I’m not really one for acquired tastes and as much as I would love to love coffee…I just don’t. I’d rather sit down over something bubbly any day.
- I’m really into reading. I don’t mean I’m into reading like I enjoy the occasional book…I mean I devour fiction on a regular basis. It is not out of the ordinary for me to grab a book, get cozy on the couch or in a bookstore, and read the entire thing in one sitting. Bonus fact: When I was super broke in college, I would read an entire book in the store and put it right back on the shelf. Sorry Barnes.
- I was an English major! That’s right. Most people would assume I did photography, but because of my fiction addiction I desperately wanted to move to New York and work for a publishing company. You know Ryan Reynold’s job in the movie “The Proposal?” Yep. That’s what I wanted to do. Read stories all day long in the best city on earth. But the Lord changed my heart and suddenly all I wanted to do upon graduating was college ministry. So here I am.
- I did theatre in high school. This explains a lot if you know me. I’ve got really eclectic taste and part of that includes my love of Broadway. Which obviously ties into my love with New York City. I love listening to full musical soundtracks while I’m editing or on long car rides, much to David’s dismay.
- I LOVE Harry Potter. And by love I mean I’m obsessed. (by now you’ve probably noticed that I’m a little extreme) I’ve been a fan since I was 8 and attended all the midnight book release parties, premiere nights, scoured all the fan sites, and even read the (gulp) fanfiction. I’ve got a Harry Potter room/nook in my house and I’m not the least bit ashamed. I wrote my senior thesis on Harry Potter and David proposed with a Harry Potter Snuggie. This is legitimate. So when people casually say, “Oh yeah, I love Harry Potter,” my reaction is…do you….do you really?
- Also, I’m a legitimate nerd. Outside of Harry Potter…I’m still a straight up “fan” of many things. That includes Doctor Who, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, certain YA authors, Team Starkid and so much more. Sometimes I find myself stuck in repetitive narratives towards people about why I like what I like and what it actually is. For example…how the heck do you explain the Vlogbrothers to someone who doesn’t know already?!?!
- I swam in high school and most of my life! I’ve done a lot of different activities, growing up in Northern Virginia will do that to you, but swimming is the one that really stuck. It’s where my friend group came from in high school and where so many sweet memories come from!
- I don’t like the outdoors. I’d rather sit inside than go on a hike pretty much any day. The only time I get excited about the outdoors is when crazy snow or rain comes our way. Now that makes me want to go outside :] Either way I’ll sum it up the way that author John Green does: “My relationship with the environment is like my relationship with an ex girlfriend. I wish the best for the environment…but I’d rather not spend time with it.”
- Here it is. The embarrassing one. I used to be an aspiring magician. Middle school was hard guys. I carried my magic kit everywhere and was fascinated with illusions. To be honest, I’m STILL fascinated with illusion. Also I rode a unicycle. 13 was a rough age.
Happy Friday people! I just found out I officially started blogging 4 years ago today! I’ve come a long way since that little tumblr page and can’t wait to see what this next year of blogging brings. Thanks for sticking with me :]
