Today, it’s my favorite guy’s 28th birthday! What?! I am constantly surprised that we’re adults. I mean, I know we have a baby, but when do you stop feeling like you’re just making it up as you go along? (just kidding, i know that never goes away) Anyways 28 feels real adult to me.
In the spirit of the fact that I mush about David all the time, instead I’m sharing some fun facts about him in honor of his birthday! Because just as much as David is great…he is weird. And fun. And I love my life with my guy. (know that most of these facts are accompanied with long sighs on my part)
- I must explain “Jobin.” It all started in college when David was OBSESSED with giving people nicknames that stuck. He got really good at it too. But he never had a nickname for me. We were watching the movie “I Love You, Man” one night and stumbled upon the name “Jobin.” Which is, of course, not a really name. Watch the movie so you can know how hilarious it is. Anyways, David said he was going to start calling me Jobin, I said I’d do the same. And seven years later, I’m still calling him Jobin like it’s his name. I think I won :]
- If he could eat cereal for every meal, he definitely would. We go through a family size of Honey Nut Cheerios once a week. (did I mention I don’t eat any of that?)
- He’d also sneak in the occasional sandwich. His other favorite food group.
- He makes himself at home at friends houses. It means he really loves you and feels comfortable with you when he’s eating out of your fridge without asking 😉
- He’s adopted from South Korea.
- David’s the stylish one out of the two of us. And is constantly picking out items of clothing that I don’t like. And they’re the first thing that gets complimented when we’re out in public.
- Currently, his favorite item is his pair of camo jogger pants.
- He owns approximately 24 hats. Probably more. I’m not kidding. People know me for my dresses like they know him for his beanies.
- He’s also a Goodwill pro. I’ve never seen someone find more legitimately good stuff at a thrift shop. I’m convinced because he’s a size small and all of the college guys gaining their freshman 15 drop their stuff off in defeat.
- He played ice hockey for most of his life. But I’ve only seen him skate a few times. (I’m mostly thankful I missed out watching this because it means I didn’t have to worry incessantly)
- In college, he sprained his ankle 3 times. And was on crutches…3 times. And third time was the charm and he finally started wearing ankle braces.
- His favorite pose for a photo is the double peace sign.
- He plays the guitar. And one time he rewrote the words of a song for me. (oh 20 year old David :] how i miss you)
- He went through a phase of trying to get everyone to give him a “high ten.”
- David loves the NBA like it’s his job. The amount he knows is insane. And he’d happily watch games and commentary and speculation all day long.
- His favorite team is the Lakers and he’s been mourning the loss of Kobe.
- His favorite celebrity might be Shaq.
- One of his favorite nights ever was the night before our wedding, playing basketball on an outdoor court with his best friends, the court lit up by the headlights on his car.
- He’s got the worst eye sight of anyone I know. And the thickest glasses. Technically, he could be considered legally blind. (why isn’t he taking advantage of this?)
- David has a strange sort of narcolepsy that means he can fall asleep during movies at the drop of a hat. Even in the theatre.
- He’s passionate about discipleship. Aka mentoring younger guys.
- He’s obsessed with tattoos. To the point that I find him scrolling instagram and his feed is full of tattoo artists.
- We’ve been to the tattoo parlor together 6 times and his 3/4 sleeve is still in progress.
- He loves coffee. A lot.
- David’s the kind of quiet where people know that when he speaks up, there’s something of importance being said. A group tends to quiet down when David has something to share.
- On the other hand, his closest friends know that he can really be quite chatty :]
- He’s actually the one who got me more seriously into photography. He bought me a DSLR and initiated all the scary first shoots.
- And finally, David’s driver’s license says that he’s a female. He tried to get it switched at the DMV…and they told him they needed proof.
I could go on forever. But those are 28 things for 28 years about my silly love. Hope you enjoyed :] And leave some birthday love for him!
The infamous double peace sign :]
