One of the many perks of my job with Cru is being around tons of students who are making big life decisions. It’s like this little vacuum for change and growth and yes, falling in love. And I got to see all of those good things in Emily’s life.

I can still remember the first time she mentioned Dennis, this cute guy from her summer in Indiana. He had red hair and he liked reading :] The two most important details, clearly! If you spend anytime at all around Dennis and Emily, you know they’re a perfect fit. They just get each other in a way that makes them completely at ease if they’re side by side. It was easy to tell from the very beginning of dating that Emily was head over heels for this guy.

And then last week happened: One red, blinking message in my inbox. From Dennis. Oh, I KNEW what this was about! And goodness gracious, was I excited! It MUST be time for Dennis to propose! It is such a privilege to be the one to capture life happening. To be the one providing proof that this thing happened, and it was amazing and worth sharing! And it’s high pressure! Proposals probably make me the most nervous out of anything I photograph! Because it happens ONCE. And you can’t ruin the surprise! And there’s no rehearsal :] But it’s so worth it! I got to be the first one to congratulate them! And seeing Dennis and Emily’s contentment right after saying yes was so, so sweet.

Dennis planned the perfect way to take Emily by surprise and they couldn’t stop BEAMING the whole time I was with them. Hope you enjoy their proposal story!
