Oh friends, I’m so aware that this post is about a month overdue. *Cue embarrassed emoji* But, this blog is a little like my online journal (like a cooler xanga), so I’m sharing Ollie’s cake smash…even if it’s a little behind the times!
I’m a photographer and I’m an ISFJ and that’s a bit of a deadly combo when it comes to capturing memories. I got so anxious leading up to Ollie’s one year that I hadn’t DONE enough or captured enough or planned enough! Because I’m a memory hoarder! Eek, it’s a real problem. But putting away my momma identity crises for a moment…I did know that I wanted to do a cake smash. Ollie is hilarious and he’d had no sweets of any kind leading up to this so we were really excited! And even though he was having a birthday party two days later, I really wanted to do something special and “birthday-y” on our own. We spent Ollie’s nap time making him a “healthy” baby cake and then let him get to work on it :]
It was such a blast! The cake was pretty cute, considering I am not skilled in that department whatsoever, and Ollie enjoyed it so much that he lost his mind when we took it away. Always a good sign, right? We moved a little bit of furniture around so we could have a clean backdrop and contained cake mess and it worked perfectly! Hope you enjoy Ollie’s first experience with cake!
Just a head’s up that this is the type of Oliver we were dealing with. He was not having it.
Hesitant.
Showing his cake to papa.
Finally getting into it!
And this is where he got real excited about it :]
Sugar high!
He was mastering standing on his own that day. I love how proud we both look :]
Annnnnd when we took the cake away…
And then he just wanted to be cuddled. It’s rough being a toddler.
PS: When we had his birthday party two days later…I just patched up the original cake with leftover icing and cake scraps from the first time around :]
