Is April of 2020 too late to do a behind the scenes post from 2019? Well, it’s my blog, so I make the rules hahah. I’m missing shooting like crazyyyy during this coronavirus business, so here’s to a walk down memory lane.
2019 was a unique year of business for us! We welcomed our baby girl into the world, shot less weddings than usual, and officially made it past the 5 year mark of owning a small business? Did you know that only half of all small businesses pass the five year mark? (April 2020 actually marks 7 years of KPP!) We feel so fortunate and even validated by these last 7 years. We’ve worked with dozens and dozens of couples and shot dozens and dozens of weddings and it never becomes less joyful.
And if you don’t believe me…just scroll through this post! I’m usually beaming or tearing up during any given moment on a wedding day because of sheer joy. My eyes even water during dance circles of songs like the “We are Family” and “Don’t Stop Believing” because I am so over the top in love with seeing people gather to celebrate marriage.
Hands down, the greatest joy in it all is the fact that we get to work together. David and I have done this as a team since 2011 and I truly can’t imagine it another way. What an incredible gift to see people commit to each other weekend after weekend – all the while, getting a perfect reminder for us of why marriage is so wonderful.
Hope you all enjoy this belated 2019 behind the scenes post! If you ever thought wedding photography was a glamorous profession…I can’t wait to upend your expectations 😉
I freaking love my job. It’s impossible not to smile on someone’s happiest day. And praise for the times I’m still looking put together…this must’ve been hour one that day :] Just chatting with past clients at dinner! And standing in open traffic 🙂I spy….David! The crop tool is my bestie sometimes. A sequence of shooting details. Looking poised in a hotel room. Looking thrilled shooting details.Wait…is that a sleeping baby! 🙂 This sweet girl was napping in the room with the best light. Soooo we made it work! And she stayed asleep until the very end! Also…seeing my two lens thrown on the bed haphazardly makes me think I need to listen to David when he says to take better care of our gear…The veil tamer. Final product :] This guy, always making it happen. Holding all the gear and the flowers and feeding me and keeping me hydrated all day and still looking dapper doing it.He gets to be my light tester, always.
But also, he’s always showing up in my reception shots. But ALSO, he always makes sure I don’t get hit by a car. And ALSO ALSO, he saves the days when flower girls or ring bearers go rogue.Meanwhile, if you ever look at me during a ceremony…I’m crying.
And during the getting ready portion? Smiling like an idiot. Lending a hand whenever I can.
Phew. The best day. My sweet friend of over a decade! Loved shooting her wedding. The same day slideshow magic. When I can make it happen, it’s one of my fave moments of the day!More shenanigans. That time David let me lounge and eat a soft pretzel while he packed up and then I misunderstood him and didn’t even get him a cupcake for the road.My leaf guy. Covering up water pipes by hand and gathering pretty orange leaves for detail shots. And also making the magic of one of my FAV 2019 shots!SEE!He’s always nearby :] And so am I haha! Some wedding day selfies. Sometimes it feels like a date because we dress up and spend the day somewhere fancy even though we’re working hard all day haha!Surrounded by a gaggle of bridesmaids. My fav place to be!David’s back :] And mirrors are hard.Hiii!Oh hiii Brittany!Final product :] Helloooo again!Absolutely in their intimate moment. They were okay with it though!David taming the veils for me again.
AND SHOWING UP VIA HIS SHADOW!Did ya know he was a dress hanger? (also do you see me in the perfume bottle reflection? ;])And a detail holder?A David of all trades. Sitting on a dusty floor surrounded by red chairs, but having the time of my life shooting details and making it look like somewhere magical!Joyful selfies. Ring shooting and reception detail shooting.Never dancing but always in the dance circle.Reassuring grooms before their first looks – what a privilege!David and the sparkler exit – a series. We’ve both gotten bopped on the head by sparklers aka FIRE before so he gets a littttle nervous about this part.Duck and cover.Bop!In the middle of a fire tunnel – where I belong! And as a bonus – some BTS from portrait sessions! Levi is wearing his fiance’s coat to keep warm and they’re probably laughing about something I unintentionally said.Midday glare and shooting through a window resulted in me and David being the stars of the show.HI!HIII!Thank goodness for crop. Aren’t they the cutest? I smacked David after he walked through this one ahahha. Fav spot in downtown Alexandria! Our first shoot back after having Amelia! We brought her to Williamsburg and she handled it like a champ! And I was tickled to be shooting again!Emily called Jack her glam squad :] Levi is breaking some distracting branches for me :] And Ollie is demonstrating how he will try to make himself part of your family when I bring him to a family shoot! Our final sweet image of these two expecting parents.
And the original – in which their daughter looked on with snacks in hand hahah.David snuggling those babes while I get stuff done!Amelia guest starred at family shoots :] Ahhh, it’s really a family affair.
So so so so incredibly grateful to do something I love with people I love that allows me to spend so much time with my kiddos.
