They met on New Year’s and it was not love at first sight. The sparks didn’t fly, and in fact, they didn’t fly for quite awhile :] Both Hugh and Rene were unsure at the beginning, but kept deciding to pursue dating to see what happened and thank goodness they did! After a visit to Hugh’s hometown, Rene knew he was the one. She was already sold on Hugh, but after every single person they ran into sang Hugh’s praises, she was even more sure! :] Rene recalls seeing so many different moments of Hugh’s kindness in the small ways – ways that would’ve been unnoticeable had she not been paying attention. But she was paying attention and its those little things helped her fall more and more in love with him.
Rene just knew the proposal had to be coming. She even thought it might be coming on this one specific night…but Hugh kept walking to dinner… It wasn’t until after dinner when they walked past the twinkle light filled pavilion, the very first place Hugh ever kissed her, that Rene really knew that she knew it was happening. Rene’s infectious laugh reverberated off the ceiling as Hugh got one one knee. It was the most obvious yes ever! Afterwards, Hugh surprised her with a celebration of their favorite people! And now, they get to start their lives together in September! What a dream.
Literally as SOON as Rene announced she was engaged, I started hoping she’d email me! I’ve seen Rene as a bridesmaid at many a friend’s wedding days and it is her turn! I met her and “sweet Hugh” at sunrise on a Friday morning and their light and warmth made it feeling like it was 500% worth it to get up at 5AM! We wandered through Georgetown and shared stories and I literally could’ve sat and talked with them all day. They’re warm and inviting and kind and fun and their marriage is going to be just the same! Cannot WAIT for September!
They gave me a no hesitation twirl and I was SO here for it!
