May 30th was always going to be their wedding date. But when Covid-19 intervened, David and Lauren chose to cancel the big shindig and keep it to a small celebration. They didn’t want to wait any longer to get married and they definitely didn’t want to put starting their lives together on hold. They traded the reception hall for a backyard, dozens of people for zoom calls, and bridal parties for immediate family only. But what was still there was each other and the Lord. And that was what they had most dreamed of anyways.
The Yim house was bustling with people that afternoon. Family brought food in and out and decorations adorned the beautiful backyard. Lauren slipped on her dress in the sunroom with her mother and sister by her side. When David straightened his tie, he only had to look right out the window to see where he’d be saying his vows. The ceremony was so wonderfully emotional. David’s father officiated the ceremony, another happy change in plans, and David gripped his dad’s arm to encourage him before he started speaking. When it came time for Lauren’s vows, she had to pause several times just to get the words out – David sweetly stopped to hug her promising he’d be crying during his vows too. They walked up the aisle beaming! After all that had happened between engagement and now, they were finally married!
The reception had so many thoughtful touches – heartfelt toasts from all of the parents, a slideshow of David and Lauren’s relationship, dances, a cake made by Lauren herself! They even included donuts for their guests as a nod to the start of their relationship. We got to stroll around in the golden light for portraits and let it sink in that they were really married, husband and wife after all this time.
