It was a sweet Virginia July day at Historic Tuckahoe. The sun was beating down through the trees, the venue a buzz with getting ready details and the grounds awaiting what would unfold later that day. Everyone was just so excited for Whit and Carmen. I’m not sure I met a single person who wasn’t beaming from ear to ear. They’d been set up on a blind date only just over a year ago, so there was a special type of joy in the air, one that their co conspirators all shared – “we did it! They’re getting married” That kind of feeling! Carmen was the most gracious bride, more concerned with how everyone else was doing than herself. I think she was full of nervous energy right up until she got a special moment with Whit. Whit had been totally fine until he heard that Carmen was walking out to him. They stood back to back and exchanged letters, Whit tearfully getting through his and Carmen reassuring him with hand squeezes and little laughs.
Shortly after, it was ceremony time in the most gorgeous natural cathedral. The trees lined a long dramatic aisle and Carmen made her way to Whit while Whit tried to hold it together, overcome by the sight of his bride. It was beautiful! And then they were married and the party really started! So many sweet words were shared but more than anything, Whit and Carmen’s love of Jesus and love of people was praised. They’re quick to serve and give of themselves, so to see hundreds of their people show up to celebrate them was so beautiful! Part of their story is that both of them had given up on the idea of marriage, just believing that it wasn’t for them. But their wonderful co conspirators schemed to change their minds :] After the toasts and the dances, the party really started! They danced the night away with excitement and headed off into their future, finally together forever.
Carmen and Whit – we had the best time with you! You guys are so full of life and joy and we loved celebrating the beginning of your life together!
