As the cell service ticked down on our phones, the anticipation rose, the mountains peeked out behind clouds, and glimpses of Irvine Estate solidified the excitement for the day ahead! Tom and Katie had to be feeling that same way! Their original wedding date was in April of 2020, so to say they’d been patiently waiting would be the biggest understatement. Today was an especially special day because it wasn’t just Tom and Katie who were coming together – but also Tom’s son TJ – the coolest 10 year old out there. They were starting a marriage and a family on the very same day and it was incredibly special to be a part of. Neither of them are about the fanfare, but instead, about wanting to provide an amazing night for their favorite people. And Katie was mostly thinking about executing the surprise of a lifetime for Tom. Instead of simply walking down the aisle…she’d be arriving in a new blue Ford for Tom. And it went PERFECTLY!
When the moment came, Tom looked up to where Katie was supposed to be coming from. There was confusion and then a wide smile when he saw the truck coming down the gravel path. And then, his twin brother handed him the keys in a box that said “surprise!” Cue the disbelief, cue the exclamations, and then cue the tears! Meanwhile, Katie was just beaming walking down the aisle knowing that she’d gotten away with the surprise! Their ceremony was written by them and performed by family – incorporating their love for each other and their love for TJ. It was beautiful! The evening was perfectly planned out and so, so much fun. After all the waiting Tom and Katie and their friends and family had done – they all deserved it! My favorite part of the night is when Tom sprang a surprise back on Katie. As an ode to where they met, doing karaoke, he surprised her my singing “Bless the Broken Road” to her in front of all of their family and friends. Everyone either had tears in their eyes or the very biggest smiles on their faces.
