One of the many awesome things about working for Cru is that part of my job is to meet with younger women. Some of these relationships take the form of discipleship, which is sort of like mentoring. Discipleship basically means that you are pouring your life into someone else, sharing life with them, and studying the Word together and learning what it is like to follow God together. One of the women that I disciple is who I am sharing with you today: Alex.
Alex and I have always had a special bond because we both share Fall Retreat spiritual birthdays. I shared my story of how I came to know Jesus awhile back and you can find it here if you missed that one. Two years after that, I was at Fall Retreat once again and MY discipler, Nicolette tapped me on the shoulder in the morning and introduced me to Alex who had just made the decision to follow Christ with her life. And now, two years later, I am on staff with Cru and I am blessed enough to be able to meet with her once a week and share life together. Who would’ve thought!
One thing that I have always remembered about Alex, and really anyone who meets her would remember, is that she loves music. Even before she was a Christian she was always making youtube videos and playing her guitar; after she came to know Christ, her passion really started to grow. Alex has an awesome voice and an even sweeter heart. It is so cool to see that deep emotional relationship she has with our Savior and to see how she is always actively seeking to grow to know Him more. Also, she is hilarious. Her and her roommate (who I also disciple) are always carrying out crazy schemes and cracking each other up. It is also sweet to see them grow together as friends who love the Lord; they truly strive to love each other well.
In honor of Alex’s love for music, we replaced discipleship a month ago with a photoshoot. We set out to WIldwood park around 9am and brought her guitar along for the ride…
Alex gets so wrapped up in her music that all I had to do was ask her to play and then I could start shooting away :]
I forgot to mention she has a GREAT laugh!
The picture below really captures Alex to me. She was singing “How He Loves” at the top of her lungs surrounded by nothing but the sounds of Fall around us.
