So just as a preface: Radford is totally a college town. But not one of those cool college towns where live music plays in local bars every night or the food is really awesome and local and unique. Nope. Radford is just a college town, that is super small and doesn’t have much to it besides the university. You’ve got to HUNT for things to do. Seriously, what do you do on a Friday? A lot of people just go to the Walmart. So yes, call me crazy, but I was excited when my friend Krysta told us about the Food Truck Festival AND the Chili Cookoff in the same weekend.
Mmm. I’ve been excited to share this delicious edition of townie problems for quite awhile now. Friday evening a couple weeks ago we headed out to Christiansburg to be about of the Food Truck Festival. We got super excited there was going to be a live band, called the Fat Catz, a magician (forreal guys i love magic), and 8ish food trucks to mull around. And then we arrived…
So one of the first things I saw in the middle of downtown Christiansburg was the live band…which turned out to be my friend Ryan and two of his friends. Seriously, Ryan is EVERYWHERE. Every random place I decide to go he ends up being there too. Ryan’s the one with the tambourine. First of all, it was hilarious that he was the entertainment for the entire festival…
I told Ryan that I was really excited about the magical act…turns out that that was him too!
All in all, good times at the festival and it was fun to see our neighbor on the right below working his hot dog cart, Benjamin’s Franks.
Ahhhh so after the fun and slight disappointment of the food truck festival we headed to the Chili Cook off the next day. For five dollars you get to try every chili there cooked by businesses in the community and then vote on your favorite! Seriously, so fun. Loved it.
The chili by Tuck’s Chiropractic was ridiculously spicy hot. Can you tell by David’s face?
Also…we got there just in time for the show..which is what caused me to just stare in disbelief and wonder how we live in this funny little town. Those poor boys were willing volunteers.
David is a pretty messy chili eater and immediately got chili all over his white tshirt.
Ahhh friends. Ahhh Radford…
