Oh, if you live in Radford, you have most certainly already heard of the Radford Coffee Company. Because new openings or good places to hang out are few and far between in our little town. And finally, there’s an awesome coffee shop in town! But if you don’t…let me explain :]
Radford is kind of a town where small businesses go to die. :[ Things open up on Main Street, stay open anywhere from 3 months to a couple years, and then close without explanation. College towns are a tough place to have a brick and mortar business, and Radford especially is! As a result, we’ve seen a few really really good coffee shops come and go. Aka The Coffee Mill and Main Street Cafe. RIP. So, of course, we’ve been looking forward to this one opening for ages now! (by we, I mean the collective “we,” aka everyone who knew that this was a possibility….it’s been long anticipated, friends!) Our friends Barbara and Eric have had a vision for this shop for years now as a place where the community in Radford could grow and thrive. A place to meet over a cup of coffee and a place to just be. All while being surrounded by quality food and drink. And let me just say, mission accomplished.
Things that make RCC wonderful? The shop itself. You’re going to see for yourself in the pictures below, but this place is seriously beautiful. It doesn’t look like it belongs in little ol’ Radford, and it’s definitely a cozy place to get some work done or meet up with a friend. The atmosphere is so good. Will I be working out of RCC on days where I need to get out of the house. 100% yes. Also the food. Wow. Everything I’ve tried so far has been really amazing. I’m not a coffee drinker, so I can’t speak to that, but everything else I’ve tried has been delicious! Sidenote: every single person I’ve talked to has RAVED about the coffee. And I know a lot of coffee snobs 😉 The final super awesome thing is that RCC is nonprofit. All of the workers are volunteer and everything goes back to the Rio Coco River. Read more about their heart and purpose here.
Okay, I think that gives you enough reasons to either come check out Radford Coffee Co…or be jealous that you live too far away to come see what the hype has been about :] For the first solid MONTH they were open it was packed! I’m talking, no where to sit, packed! So the hype is real! It’s calmed down to a normal bustling coffee shop pace in the last week or so…and I’m just so excited to see what comes out of this place.
During their soft opening, I got the chance to go in and take some pictures for their website. So enjoy the ambiance of RCC through the inter webs :]
This place was a labor of love. So many people I know spent countless hours making the shop beautiful!
Don’t be fooled. The only way I could get shots without a million people in them? Come in after hours :]
