Aaron and Karleigh are ENGAGED! And anyone who has known these two for any length of time will say, “finally!” They are just so obviously supposed to be with each other! This was one proposal that everyone around them was hoping for and even waiting for. David and I have known these two since they were freshmen at Radford, a little over five years now! We remember when they were just friends hanging out in the campus Starbucks every day, and sitting out on the quad late into every night. And right now, we have the distinct pleasure of having Aaron live with us! That’s right, Aaron lives in our basement, so we’ve gotten a front seat view to him planning out the proposal and even getting the ring :] If you want the story from Karleigh’s perspective, she detailed everything out in the cutest blog post. But I’d be a little off brand if I didn’t share my version of the story!
Aaron had his heart set on recreating their first date ever since he got the ring, even before that! Or as they say, their first non-date date! They were still just friends at that point, but they had just told each other about their feelings. And they already had plans to celebrate Karleigh’s birthday, so off they went! Aaron took her to Red Lobster and then out to Harry DeHaven Park, one of their spots as friends. They walked around the park holding hands and there was a shift in their relationship that day. So on Saturday, Aaron set out to recreate that day. He took her to lunch at Red Lobster and then…he stalled. They got out of lunch much earlier than expected and Aaron knew he had to kill some time, so he took pit stops around Radford, even pulling over in a parking lot just to talk. With Karleigh’s suspicion was growing every passing minute :] Finally, it was safe to head out, so he gave her her first surprise of the day…a blindfold. He drove the winding roads out to their spot, Karleigh guessing their route turn by turn.
Once they pulled into the parking lot, Aaron got Karleigh out of the car, set her up in front of the mountains, and got on one knee. It was time to take the blindfold off. Karleigh nervously laughed and said she wasn’t ready, not ready for all of the emotions that were about to come along with this question! It didn’t take long for her to take it all in, take the blindfold off, and see her love, her very best friend, on one knee asking her to marry him. There was barely a second that passed before Karleigh said yes and jumped into his arms! The ring was PERFECT, but even more perfect was that they’d been waiting for this moment, and it was finally here! After we took celebratory portraits and reminisced on the beginning of their relationship, they drove off into the setting sun…Karleigh having no idea that she was headed back to her house, which was full of most of her favorite people! It was the perfect end to the best day. The sight of her family and cherished friends filling her home brought Karleigh to tears! It was the sweetest, sweetest day!
